The final round of Canterbury Central Masters round-robin play was completed yesterday at Akaroa in fine conditions. The National U17 Eagles Championships was played earlier this week at Mangawhai Golf Course. There are 15 Eagles Societies throughout NZ with each Society sending a 3-person mixed team of boys & girls to compete in individual & team competitions. This tournament sees some of the best young golfers in NZ from this age bracket as well as providing up-and-coming young players who are showing great promise an opportunity to be introduced to a more competitive side of golf and to also meet and make new friends, develop camaraderie and enjoyment through the game of golf.

Templeton, Clearwater, Russley, and Waitikiri will contest the semi-finals of the 2022 Woodward Cup after the final two rounds were played at Templeton Golf Club yesterday.

In the morning the feature match was Pegasus v Clearwater. Pegasus had NZ rep Kazuma Kobori back in the team and he duly obliged with a 4/3 win over Canterbury team-mate Dominic Brettkelly. Phil Stephens and James Cadenhead also won for Pegasus while Shaun Allan halved with Archie Gothard, and Marcus Mariu halved with Leon Yee. Round 7 of Pollock Cup was played at Waimairi Beach on Sunday in sunny, warm conditions and the course in great order.
With Semi-Final positions up for grabs and several players in contention for the coveted Merle Barley Salver, it was always going to be an exciting morning of golf.

Last week both the Canterbury Boys team and Canterbury Girls team competed at their respective annual Interprovincial tournaments. The boy’s event was held at Cambridge Golf Club while further east the Girls event was played at Rotorua Golf Club, both in great condition despite the unusually wet and cold October weather that were faced throughout the week.

The 2022 Men’s Masters South Island Interprovincial was played last weekend at the Motueka Golf Club which is set to host the NZ Freyberg Masters in a month’s time.
Canterbury sent a team with a few familiar faces as well as three new players to the event in Woo Bong Kim, James Howard, and Alisdair Reid. A cool blustery day greeted players at Weedons Country Club for the double round of the 2022 Woodward Cup.

The home team got off to a great start recording their first win of the season over Bottle Lake 5-3. Wins went to Brad Nightingale, Jonathan Stieller, Max Edwards, Anuresh Chandra, and Devon Nightingale for Weedons, while for Bottle Lake Andrew Green, Jason Campbell, and Steve Dellow won.

Round 6 of Pollock Cup was played at Harewood on Sunday in fine conditions and the course in great order.
Being the penultimate round of the competition, teams were keen to put some good results on the board to enhance their play-off hopes. Waimairi Beach were one of the teams who made the most of their opportunity upsetting leaders Clearwater 3.5-2.5. For Waimairi Beach, Zaria Bourne and Pam Chapman both won tight matches, Angela Gerken had a big win and Georgia Wayman halved with Marg-Mary Coughlan.
