Cheviot - Canterbury North Women's Interclub Champions

30 August 2022

The Final round of Canterbury North Women's Interclub was played at Scargill Golf course on Monday in sunny conditions, and after recent rain the course still quite wet underfoot in some areas. Cheviot and Scargill both went into the last round at the top of the table tied on 13 games, but with hosts Scargill having the bye the title was Cheviot's to lose and they played fifth placed Culverden. Hawarden sitting third, still had a realistic opportunity to catch Cheviot being just behind them on 12.5 games, and they were up against fourth placed Hanmer Springs. The Cheviot team of, from left...

Town vs Country 2022

29 August 2022

Lead group singles The annual Town vs Country Representative fixture was held at McLeans Island Golf course yesterday in overcast but fine conditions with the course in good condition with the greens worked on just hours before tee off. In true Town vs Country tradition players of various clubs from each region were on display with Town having representatives from 10 different clubs (Avondale, Bottle Lake, Clearwater, Coringa, Templeton, Waimairi Beach, Russley, Christchurch, Harewood, and Waitikiri) with Country having 7 clubs represented (Amberley, Amuri, Pegasus, Hororata, Weedons, and Kaiapoi.) With plenty of playing quality across both teams the fixture, which acts as one of...

Clearwater and Templeton lead after 3 rounds of Woodward Cup

24 August 2022

With three wins from three matches Clearwater and Templeton lead the 2022 Woodward Cup. Avondale are also unbeaten but drew with Russley in round two. The early rounds have shown some very lopsided results and given a good indication of potential semi-finalists. As well as Clearwater, Templeton, and Avondale; Pegasus, Russley, and Waitkiri have a clear headstart in the race for semi-final spots. At the other end of the ladder Christchurch and Weedons are yet to register a win, and Harewood has got one point from a draw with Waitikiri. The 0-3 record for Christchurch is a particular shock, given the club's...

Clearwater & Russley Lead Pollock Cup

24 August 2022

The third round of Pollock Cup was played in fine, sunny weather at Waitikiri on Sunday with underfoot conditions still quite wet in low-lying areas, which tested many players. Matches through the first three rounds continue to be unpredictable with some close contests, but one big win on Sunday saw Waimairi Beach defeat Harewood 6-0 with Deanna Matthews, Angela Gerken, Georgia Wayman, Zaria Bourne, Lyn Robertson and Pam Chapman all winning for Waimairi Beach. Clearwater notched some early wins courtesy of Jo Kent, Lexi Thomson-Hall and Lynda Vieceli while No. 1 Rachel Eder edged past Nicole Hamilton-Cross in a close match at...

2022 Woodward Cup Preview

4 August 2022

2022 Woodward Cup Team Woodward Cup starts this Sunday at Waitikiri and a collective prayer for no more rain between now and Sunday would be good. As we’ve come to expect in Canterbury, some of our rising talent have either joined the professional ranks or moved overseas to play golf during the off season. On the flip side, this provides opportunities for our young talent to test their match play skills against the best Canterbury has to offer and should make great viewing over the next few months as teams set their sights on Finals Day in November. Round 1 hosts Waitikiri are matched against last...

2022 Pollock Cup Preview

4 August 2022

2022 Pollock Team This year’s Pollock Cup starts on Sunday at Avondale with three new clubs, hosts Avondale, Harewood and Waimairi Beach involved this season. Russley meet Waimairi Beach in the opening match of the round and while Russley’s young squad of Alisia Ren, Jasmine Clancy, Estelle Lin, Vanessa Lim, Jessie Mercer, Eva Yin, Junie Chang, Yana Ye and Alice Fry at first glance looks light on experience with a number of the squad making their first appearances in Pollock Cup, their top order combined have accumulated 33 wins from 56 appearances so should get their side off to a good start. Waimairi Beach’s...

Canterbury North vs Central

25 July 2022

2022 Central Team The annual Canterbury Central vs Canterbury North fixture was played at Weedons Golf Club recently with the contest turning into a very tight affair. Following a -4 degree frost delay, play got underway with the Foursomes teeing off at 10am. The hindered start to the day meant the final singles groups in the afternoon play made their way back to the clubrooms in very dark surroundings.  Canterbury North was convincing in the Senior competition taking out the foursomes format 5-1 with just the Central pairing of Dominic Brettkelly and Max Edwards getting a win on the board. This was followed by the...
