Life Members Tournament 2021 Bill Whelan Bob Duff 1st Rick Wilson The Annual Canterbury Golf Life Members Tournament was held at Waimairi Beach Golf Club on Monday in fine conditions and the course in great order.  Scoring was very competitive with just six stableford points splitting the first nine players. It was John Duff (McLeans's Island) who sealed victory with 34 points from Bill Whelan (Ellesmere) with 32 points on a countback from Rick Wilson (Waimairi Beach). Captains Day Winners 2021 Burnham Cropped Canterbury Golf Captains Day Tournament was held at Greendale Golf Club on Friday in perfect golfing conditions and the course in great order. It's always a great opportunity for Canterbury Men and Women Club Captains to enjoy each others company and share ideas from their respective clubs. Some excellent scoring, in particular by the Ladies Club Captains saw the top 9 teams separated by just 6 stableford points. Burnham's Club Captains Aaron Tallott (39 pts) and Audrey Flower (40pts) won the tournament with a combined total of 79 stableford points. Mountcastle Triumphs at Canterbury Strokeplay

Canterbury Stroke Play Champions 2021 min New Zealand and Wellington rep Kerry Mountcastle staged a spectacular back nine comeback to beat Canterbury's Kazuma Kobori by one shot for the Men's Championship at the 2021 Smiths City Canterbury Strokeplay held at Clearwater this weekend. Kobori led by a shot starting the final round and by the 12th hole had built that lead up to three shots courtesy of a short game masterclass - sinking many length putts, and a chip-in on 12. Smiths City Logo web The highest quality field ever assembeld will compete at the 2021 Smiths City Canterbury Strokeplay to be held at Clearwater Golf Club this weekend. Over 40 players were balloted out with a 3 handicap required to get into the Men's Championship field. It should be an interesting tournament with many new faces in the field from throughout New Zealand. Pegasus win Pollock Cup

Pegasus Pollock Cup Champions 2020   The rescheduled 2020 Pollock Cup final between Pegasus and Christchurch was held in fine hot weather at Waitikiri on Sunday 24 January.  The Waitikiri course was presented in excellent condition and as usual offered up its challenges with its many dog-leg holes.  At No. 1 for the Pegasus was Momoka Kobori, playing her last amateur game before entering a professional career.  In a very close match she defeated Christchurch's Catherine Bell 3/2.    Pegasus then secured two other wins -  one from Deanna Matthews Pegasus No.3 defeating Melissa Newburn 3/1 and the other from Bobbi Oliver at No.5 for Pegasus defeating Margaret-Mary Coughlan...

Canterbury Golf Life Member Terry Downey Passes Away

11 January 2021

Canterbury Golf Life Member Terry Downey passed away last Friday morning at Parklands Care Home in Papanui. He had been in poor health for some time. He was heavily involved with the administration of Canterbury Golf culminating in being President in 1984. He was also a long time member of the Canterbury Golf Referees Association. The funeral service for Terry will be held at the Lamb & Hayward Westpark Chapel on Wairakei Rd at 2pm on Friday 15th January.

2020 Pollock Cup Final this Sunday at Waitikiri!

The rescheduled Pollock Cup Final between Pegasus and Christchurch is being played this Sunday at Waitikiri Golf Club teeing off at 12.30pm. In the round robin Pegasus swept Christchurch 6-0 and will be hoping for a similar result on Sunday with a strong lineup that will feature Canterbury No.1 Momoka Kobori ably supported by Canterbury team-mate Amy Weng, and also Yoyo Fu, Deanna Mathews, and stalwarts Bobbi Oliver and Karen De La Tour. Christchurch will be looking for some upsets with Canterbury reps Catherine Bell and Olive Tapu at the top-of-the-order, and ably supported by Nicky Webb and Mel Newburn. Get out there...
