Pollock Cup Round 2 at Christchurch

19 August 2019

Round two of Pollock Cup was played at Christchurch Golf Club yesterday in cool fine conditions with the course in great order. Weedons registered their first win for the season with a tight 3.5-2.5 win over Waimairi Beach. Joanne Kent, Deanna Matthews and Virginia Faass had wins for Weedons while Waimairi Beach's wins came from Lynda Brown and Lyn Roberston. Teenager Jana Beneke halved her first Pollock match with Weedon's Jenny Clarke. Woodward Cup - Round 1 at Waitikiri

The 2019 Woodward Cup teed off at Waitikiri Golf Club yesterday in fine but damp conditions. There were some interesting results as teams brushed off the cobwebs for what is set to be a close-run competition. There were two draws. Russley drew with Bottle Lake 4-4. For Bottle Lake No.1 Cameron Grant won along with Kris O'Neill, Lachie MacKay, and Steve Dellow. For Russley it was the "older" players that came through with wins to Regan Kilpatrick, Michael McAuley, Owen Burgess, and Andrew Dufton. Pollock Cup Round 1 at Waimairi Beach

With a forecast for rain and possible snow, it was an almost pleasant surprise to have a fine but cold day at Waimairi for the first round of Pollock Cup on Sunday and the Waimairi Beach course was in excellent condition after the heavy rain in the preceding days. A talented line-up and last year's winners Russley made their mark on the competition with a 6-0 win over Waitikiri who were without two of their lower handicap players. Woodward Cup Preview

The 2019 Woodward Cup competition starts this Sunday at Waitikiri at the new time of 12.00pm and a month later than previous years to try and take advantage of the better weather conditions. With the extra daylight hours this will also allow for the final four rounds being double rounds on 30 September and 13 October. Indications from all the Team Managers is that their teams are all well prepared and ready to roll. Pollock Cup Review

Pollock Cup starts this Sunday at Waimairi Beach Golf Club at 9.30am, the competition will again have seven teams competing after the successful introduction of the new competition format in 2018 which has seen a significant increase in the number of players involved. Waimairi Beach have the first round bye and will be looking forward to getting underway in round two against Weedons. Great turnout for Canterbury Junior Event

IMG 6 A field of 45 junior golfers competed in the Canterbury Junior Tournament played at the Rangiora Golf Club. Two events were held with both 18 holes and 9 holes on offer to cater for the various stages of development. Rangiora provided a great course with the juniors all enjoying the challenge. The grade 1 boys section was won by Hayato Miya on 74 one shot clear of his brother Yuki Miya (both Russley) with Lachie MacKay (Waimairi Beach) and Mika MacDonald (Christchurch) taking out the net prizes. Kaiapoi's Retief Beneke won the grade 2 net on a countback from Joseph Hall (Weedons)...

Brownie Cup Winner 2019 Weedons Black LR The Final Round of the Canterbury Central Brownie Cup Interclub Competition was played at Burnham Golf Club on Sunday. The Weedons Black team of, from left Keith Mills, Shane Chatterton, Stephen Harrison, Shane Lacey, Darryl Campbell, Barrie Matthews and Gary Dixon defeated Tai Tapu 6.5-2.5 in their final match to remain unbeaten throughout the competition with a record of eight wins and one half from their nine games, to be crowned Brownie Cup Champions.
