Ashby Bergh Trophy & McGuire Hendon Cup

McGuire Hendon Winners 2018 Kaiapoi Gold LR The Ashby Bergh Trophy and McGuire Hendon Cup were played at Lincoln Golf Club on Sunday in cool, wintery conditions and the course in great order.  The Ashby Bergh Trophy was played between Weedons Red, the winner of Canterbury Central Patterson Cup and Amberley Gold, the winner of the Canterbury North Templeton Cup. Woodward Cup - Round 2

Woodward Cup Rd3 For the second week in a row damp and windy conditions greeted the players but once again the hosts claimed the limelight.   This time Bottle Lake delivered an upset, getting the better of Russley 5-3. Bottle Lake's playing order yielded dividends as Steve Dellow, Jordon Pruden, Kris O’Neil and Lachlan McKay delivered the all-important wins. Coupled with half points from Kieran Sharvin and Jason Campbell (whose 100th game was celebrated to a big home ovation), they left Russley in an unfamiliar spot early in the season. U17 Eagles Golfing Society of Canterbury Tournament

Kazuma Eagles The Annual Eagles Golfing Society of Canterbury Tournament was held at the Waimairi Beach Golf Club on Monday in fine conditions and the course in excellent order. This tournament is the qualifying event for the top two boys and top girl to play in the NZ Eagles U17 Final Tournament on 8-10 October this year also to be played at Waimairi Beach. With the Canterbury Eagles hosting the event another eight players from this qualifying tournament will also be invited to play in the national tournament in October. Woodward Cup Round 1

Woodward Cup got underway today in damp and windy conditions at Coringa Country Club. The story of the day would have to go to the hosts Coringa who upset Harewood 5-3. Matt McLean took down Nic Kay at the top in a good tussle, but Coringa’s middle order was too strong with wins at 2 through to 6, including a good win to Grant Mercer 6/5 over Matt O’Carroll in the number two spot. The 2018 Woodard Cup competition kicks off this Sunday and over the next three months ten of the most evenly contested teams in recent memory will stake their claim for the silverware. A slight tweak in format sees the competition reverting back to one-rounders, all starting at 11.30am, however the quality of golf seems to have escalated yet again. Peter Brinsdon The 2018 Asia Pacific Senior Amateur Championship will this year be played at the Tom Watson Golf Club, Miyazaki, Japan, from 17-19 October. A teams event is played in conjunction with the individual competition in which New Zealand has a proud record. Brent Paterson won the title last year at Royal Adelaide and returns to defend. New Golf Rules for 2019

All golfers will be aware that a complete rewrite of the Rules of Golf will come into effect on January 1 2019. Canterbury Golf Referees Association point out to clubs who are proposing to print new cards, that the following two Local Rules can be removed as they will become an integral part of the new rules. The first one concerns the accidental movement of the ball on the green and the second one is the use of measuring devices. Canterbury 4BBB Championship Champions On a superb winter's day on an equally good Bottle Lake golf course the 2018 Riccarton Park Golf Complex 4BBB Championship was held today. Many found the damp and sometimes blustery norwest conditions difficult, but those that combined well in the 4BBB format did score well. The men's championship was won by the Waitikiri pairing of Brett Turner and Steve Bell with a fine 63.
