Amelia Garvey has produced a dominant display down the stretch to claim an authoritative victory in the New Zealand Women’s Stroke Play Championship at the Hastings Golf Club. The 16-year-old showed an old head on her young shoulders when the pressure went on to etch her name into the Mellsop Cup. Despite finishing with a comfortable six shot victory over Chantelle Cassidy (Riverside Golf Club) it was anything but clear cut with four holes to play. Starting the back nine Garvey had a four-shot lead which Cassidy immediately started to eat into with a birdie on the 10th and after...

A former Scottish junior representative and a current Canterbury selector have claimed the 81st New Zealand Womens Autumn Foursomes Cup at Harewood Golf Club yesterday.
It was an exciting finish for the host club with Harewood members Debbie Scott, partnered with Jill Balloch, winning on the 18th hole after a closely fought battle.
Matching against Julie Livesey (Tai Tapu) and Sharon Screen (Charteris Bay), the favoured pair didn’t have the best of starts, being 2-down after 4 holes. Par’s on the 5th and 6th got them back to all-square which they held till the 10th hole. A bogey on the opening back...

For Kaiapoi Golf Club’s Amelia Garvey and Cambridge Golf Club’s Jordan Woodall it was a case of what might have been after both claimed second place in their respective age grades at the Nick Faldo Asia Series final in Vietnam.
Amelia, who was named in the New Zealand Queen Sirikit Cup team on the morning of the final round in Vietnam, was proud to be in serious contention of claiming both the U16 Girls and the Overall Girls titles with just a few holes to go. A series of uncharacteristic mistakes, coupled with a lost ball penalty (from which she made...

The six par 3's at Bottle Lake are usually not as easy as they would seem, but the calm conditions provided players with the opportunity to score well. Not only did 53 players record two's over the tournament there was also a rare feat with two hole in ones achieved on the day. Catherine Bell played the perfect shot to 9th green landing just short of the pin and then bouncing in for her hole in one while in the men's field Jacob Roberts had a hole in one on the sixth hole. Both Catherine and Jacob finished runners up...
