Weedons Red Win Patterson Cup Final

Patterson Cup Winners 2017 Weedons Red LR The final of the Canterbury Central Patterson Cup was played at Charteris Bay on Sunday in excellent condtions and a great atmosphere. The Weedons Red team  from left, Mike Prendergast, Darryl Campbell, Craig McIntosh, Mark Taylor, David Butts, Mike Methven, Chris Hay, and Terry Sullivan (Team Captain) seen here with the trophy defeated Burnham's Dave Kirton, Clayton Hogg, James Turipa, Wayne Carling, Kevin Rutherford, Craig Lawson, Dennis Gibbons and Ian Tennant 5.5-2.5.     The Annual Morgan Kennedy Peninsula Trophy match played between Selwyn and Peninsula teams was won this year by Selwyn 5-3.

Buller Westland beat Central Canterbury

Central Canterbury vs Buller 2017 The annual fixture saw Central Canterbury travel to the West Coast to play the Buller Westland Team at the Reefton Golf Club.  Representative matches were played against the two regions with reverse singles and singles for senior men, intermediate men, masters men and for the first time included a women's team.   Buller Westland won the senior men 5 games to 3.  Central Canterbury women won a close match 4.5 games to 3.5 Buller Westland took out the Masters men 6 games to 2.   Buller Westland also prevailed in the Intermediate men 6 games to 2.  Overall result Buller Westland 20.5 games Central Canterbury...

2017 Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner

Sue McFarlane Life Membership The Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner was held last Friday evening at Russley Golf Club, and the 150 people who attended were treated to a fine evening of awards, fun, and stories from guest speaker Mark Greatbatch. MC Phil McGoldrick loosened the crowd up with a very funny golfing joke and then the evening began with Juliana Hung (Russley) winning the Riccarton Park Golf Complex Girl's Junior Golfer of the Year, and Hiroki Miya (Russley) winning the Riccarton Park Golf Complex Boy's Junior Golfer of the Year. National Academy Re-selected

Amelia Garvey NZ Stroke Play The 2017/18 National Academy has now been re-selected for another 12 month term.  The incumbent members who have been re-selected include Ryan Chisnall (Greenacres), Daniel Hillier (Manor Park), Luke Brown (The Pines), Alanna Campbell (Omanu) and Amelia Garvey (Kaiapoi).  These players have been part of the national programme for varying lengths of time and are all aiming to continue the progress they have made during their time in the Academy. Chisnall, Hillier and Brown are gearing up to tackle a number of Northern Hemisphere summer events before heading home to contend for the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship title in October. Pegasus Make it Back-to-Back Kaikoura Cups

Kaikoura Cup Winners 2017 Pegasus LR The North Canterbury interclub finals were played at Rangiora Golf Club last Sunday. The weather was fine if a little chilly and the course was presented in good condition with the greens in particular being superb. The semi-finals in the Kaikoura Cup saw Pegasus Blue defeat Amuri 5-1 while the second semi-final between Kaiapoi and Pegasus White required a playoff after the teams were locked up at 3 a piece. Harewood Win Metro B Marathon Play-Off

The Metro B Interclub Final was finally completed at Coringa on Sunday with Harewood clinching the title against top qualifiers Bottle Lake after a marathon sudden death play-off, proceeding over two days. The initial Finals Day Final on 30 April ended with both teams locked in a 4-4 draw and two sudden death play-off holes were completed before bad light stopped play. 36 Hole Silver Womens Interclub Winners 2017 Waitikiri LR The Women’s 36 Hole Silver and Open Finals together with the 18 Hole Final were played at Christchurch Golf Club yesterday in sunny, calm conditions with the course in magnificent order.  In the 36 Hole Silver Final fourth qualifiers Waitikiri played second qualifiers Clearwater in a dour struggle with two singles matches being decided on the final hole and another on the penultimate hole before Waitikiri’s (from left)  Rosalie Neaves, Pam Ellis, Cheryl Kemp and Lyn Robertson overcame Clearwater’s Rachel Eder, Nicky Wright, Virginia Faass and Lynda Vieceli 3.5-2.5.             In the 36 Open Final it was an all Tai Tapu affair with...

George Stringer Passes Away

10 May 2017

Canterbury Central stalwart George Stringer passed away late last week. he was found at home by a neighbour. George provided over 20 years service to his club Burnham, and as Secretary/Treasurer for Canterbury Central Golf where he was also a Life Member.  He was also a member of the Canterbury Eagles Golfing Society. A memorial service to celebrate George's life is being held at Christchurch Crematorium Funeral Services (65 Vickerys Rd, Wigram) on Sunday 14 May at 11am.
