The Eagles Golfing Society of Canterbury is a non-profit incorporated society of nearly fifty years, whose members have given distinguished service to their Clubs and the game of golf. The sixty current Canterbury members, elected to the Society by their peers or nominated by their golf club, must be dedicated to fostering the game of golf, promotion of the fellowship of golfers, assist in encouraging and instructing junior golfers, and promoting sportsmanship, skill and etiquette. The Canterbury Eagles Golfing Society have also a charitable interest in that we raise monies for the Halberg Trust who assist young personnel with disabilities to take part in sport or active leisure in the Canterbury / West Coast district administered by this Trust.
MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA
Membership to the Eagles Golfing Society is by invitation or nomination from individuals and golf clubs within the Canterbury region, and is open to those who have made, or perceived to have the credentials to contribute positively to their club and the game of golf, whilst embracing the objectives of the Eagles Society. Requirements expected from a prospective member are,
Good Character – Reliability – Organisational skills and highly regarded by their fellow member golfers. They also must have the desire to belong to a Fellowship of Golfers who have the objectives of giving back to golf. There is no minimum age limit or handicap restriction to joining the Eagles Society and the Membership of the Eagles Society is not confined to Men. Indeed Women are also actively sought as prospective members. The Society meets on a monthly basis at different golf clubs within Canterbury, to play with the available club members. It uses the occasion to promote itself to golf clubs and prospective members. Partners of Eagles who play golf are actively encouraged to attend the Match Days and play alongside their partners. Members must attend as many of the Monthly Match Days as possible, and positively contribute in helping the Society achieve its objectives. There are approximately 1400 members within 15 Provincial Societies. Canterbury has an active membership of around sixty, representing the majority of the areas Golf Clubs.
What does an Eagle do?
The Eagles Golfing Society places strong emphasis on supporting junior golf through raising funds and assisting with junior tournaments, whilst raising funding for those less fortunate than ourselves through the game of golf.
