Waimairi Beach Golf Club was established in 1932. In the 1960’s-70’s the Canterbury Education Board then owned the land and organized for the schools of Canterbury to plant pine trees thorough the course and over time, the course became known as a tough test of accurate driving and lightening fast greens. In 2000 the Club purchased the land and from 2007-2012 cleared the pines. The earthquakes of 2010/2011 caused considerable damage. The Club asked Kura Design Ltd to redesign the course with a view to mitigating any future earthquake damage and to make the course into a links course.
The new course opened in May 2013. With most of the old pine trees gone and a selection of dune sand bunkers and large waste areas, gently rolling and fast greens, the course is now a real test of placement and finesse.
A new clubhouse was completed in February 2014 complete with bar and café facilities. The Pro Shop offers a good range of products as well as club and golf cart hire. Full subscriptions at present are $1018 per annum with various other flexible options available, including summer, mid-week and nine-hole.
