It was a clean sweep for the Canterbury team in the 2024 edition of the annual Canterbury vs Aorangi fixture played at Ashburton on Sunday with the Men's, Women's, and Masters teams getting the win.
It was largely one-way traffic in the men's event with Aorangi naming a relatively young side promoting 4 u19 players into their senior team for the event. A big congratulations to Canterbury's Yuki Miya for winning the New Zealand Under 19 Championship title yesterday at the New Plymouth Golf Club, finishing 9 under par!
It was a top 2 for Canterbury players in the u19 Boys with Alfie Bell also finishing as runner-up at 2 under par. Other notable Canterbury performances included a runners-up finish for Lannie Inoue in the u16 girls, Junie Chang's 4th in the u16 girls, and Etienne Collier and Uny Shao's 4th equal performance in the u16 Boys. The 2024 Canterbury Golf Awards Dinner was held on Friday evening at the Christchurch Golf Club which is a special event on the calendar where we celebrate our people from all areas of the game here in Canterbury.
With 116 people in attendance, it was a big occasion with players, club volunteers, administrators, and greenkeepers alike all being celebrated. The audience was entertained by several special segments including guest speaker, Golf NZ National Coach Jay Carter, and the awarding of several service awards including a new Life Membership.

Pollock Cup 2024 commences this weekend at Clearwater in what could be a very open affair with a number of teams having personnel changes, together with the addition of new players to the competition.
Last year’s champions Waimairi Beach have retained the nucleus of their successful side from 2023 with Canterbury Reps Aroha Minhinnick and Zaria Bourne, Aorangi Reps Deanna Matthews and Angela Gerken. Lyn Robertson, unbeaten last year and joint Merle Barley Salver winner with Deanna, and ex Canterbury Rep Georgia Wayman round off a strong, settled squad very capable of going back-to-back.

Hawarden successfully retained the Boyle Cup for 2024 yesterday, defeating a gallant Waimakariri Gorge team of Janne Pottinger, Liz Steele, Mary Te Awa, Liz Scott and Wendy Mehrtens 3-2. (Liz and Wendy had wins for Waimak Gorge, while Erin Mulholland, Nicky Matthews and Jill Allan registered wins for Hawarden).
It was Hawarden's final challenge for the season and they can now take a well earned break and proudly return the Boyle Cup to the clubs trophy cabinet until next year's challengers are confirmed.

The 2024 edition of the historic Woodward Cup competition, which was first contested in 1938, is back for another season in what we expect to be another competitive year with player movement and a new team in the division.
Defending champions Christchurch Golf who wrestled back the title against two-time defending champions Templeton in 2023 will be looking to back that year up and defend the trophy.
