The 2023 edition of the NZ Freyberg Masters was played last week at the Poverty Bay Golf Club in Gisborne. The Canterbury team featured a familiar lineup with just one addition to the squad in Andrew Green who was selected to play at the number 1 spot. Andrew Dufton, who a year earlier attended as the reserve played his way back into the starting 5 to play alongside Woo Bong Kim (2), Aaron Forsyth (3), and James Howard (4) as well as the experienced Jason Sincock (reserve.)

The 2023 edition of the Men’s Interclub Finals Day took place on Sunday at Pegasus Golf Club in very hot spring conditions. With a total of 120 players across 16 teams and four different competitions all culminating together, it was always going to be a very busy semi-final morning plays before the eventual respective competition finalists were found.

The Final Round of the 4 week junior foursomes was concluded on Sunday at Russley Golf Club. The Nine Hole competition had been a close tussle between Waimairi Beach and Weedons and entering the final round Waimairi had a 2 point lead. However the Weedons team had other ideas and emerged the winners of the competition by 3 points after the four ball best ball stableford with their pairing of Taine and Lianna contributing an impressive 21 points. The Women's Champion of Champions Tournament and Gross Stableford Rosebowl were held at Christchurch Golf Club yesterday in perfect summery conditions with the course in great order.
The Women's Champion of Champion for 2023 is Catherine Palmer of Christchurch (pictured right) with a 1 stroke win over Alisia Ren (Russley). Both players played immaculate golf, with Catherine finishing 1 over the card for a 36 hole total of 149 and and Alisia 2 over the card on 150. The biggest day of the Men’s Interclub season lies ahead on Sunday 12 November as the top teams from the Woodward Cup, Blank Cup, and Simon Cup competitions meet on a busier than ever Finals Day at Pegasus Golf Club.
With the inclusion of the new Simon Division 2 competition, which is to be formally named the Thompson/MacDonald Trophy moving forward, there will be a total of 120 players across 16 teams on course to contest the morning semi-finals with 60 players and 8 teams to progress to the afternoon finals.

Sebastian May has stormed home to win the biggest title of his young career – the 2023 New Zealand Amateur Championship.
The 17-year-old Cantabrian beat Auckland’s Steven Van Heerden 6&5 in the 36-hole final at Hamilton Golf Club – St Andrews Course, to write his name next to Danny Lee, Stuart Jones, Walter Godfrey, and Brian Silk, who all won at this venue.

The Women’s and Men’s annual South Island Interprovincial tournaments were held over the 28-29 October weekend at Rangiora Golf Club and Otago Golf Club respectively.
Women’s South Island Interprovincial
Rangiora Golf Club played host to the women’s SI showpiece Rep event this year where they welcomed just three provinces this year in Otago, Aorangi, and Canterbury with the event being played over 36 holes. Both our Boys and Girls Canterbury representative teams competed in their respective interprovincial tournaments last week in what was a great outcome for our leading youth golfers.

The boy's event took place at Cambridge Golf Club with 4 players making their tournament debut in James Walker (Russley), Etienne Collier (Avondale), Jonathan Fry (Russley), and Otis Holland (Harewood.) this was alongside tournament regulars Seb May (Clearwater), Yuki Miya (Pegasus) and Cooper Moore (Clearwater.) The Final double rounds of Woodward and Blank Cups were played at Avondale and Coringa respectively on Sunday.As is customary, there were a number of players in contention for both competitions going into the double rounds vying for the opportunity to win the Stan Rich Salver (Woodward Cup) and B O'Malley Salver (Blank Cup) for best individual performances throughout round robin play.
Ryan Bellamy (Templeton) left, came out on top in Woodward Cup with 8 wins and a half from 9 matches, while Ollie Partridge (Waimairi Beach) pictured with Blank Cup Convenor Don Brown, achieved 8 wins from 9 matches.

The final Pollock Cup round robin matches were played on Sunday at Waimairi Beach which signalled the last opportunity for players to stake their claim for individual honours and the Merle Barley Salver.
There were several players in contention leading into the final round, however it was Waimairi Beach team mates Lyn Robertson (left) and Deanna Matthews who held their nerve, both finishing with a perfect 5 from 5 winning record to share the Merle Barley Salver.
